The last opening day at Winkhouse stadium for the Skyhawks ended in disappointment. A large crowd gathered to watch the event and cheer on the Skyhawks, including JR high and JV players and parents. Despite outhitting Kent, the Skyhawks drop the game 12 - 6. Putting the bat on the ball was not the problem as the Skyhawks outhit Kent with 10 hits and only struck out 4 times in the game. Unfortunately, throwing strikes was the issue as the Skyhawks walked 9 batters and hit 3 batters, providing 12 free baserunners to the visiting Kent.

Kent jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st. The Skyhawks clawed back to with in 1 run (3-2) in the bottom of the 2nd, but quickly gave up 3 runs in the top of the 3rd falling behind 6-2. They Skyhawks tried to rally back, with bases loaded in a couple of innings, but a couple of double plays by Kent kept the Skyhawks from every getting really close again, losing the game 12-6.

Reuben Marquess was 2-2 with 2 walks, reaching base all 4 plate appearances. Jase Duncan also collected 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Skyhawks. Reeser, McDougle, Harris, Cunningham and Majors collected 1 hit each. Carson Majors (pictured) got his first Varsity hit in the game.

The Skyhawks look to put the loss behind them and travel to Greenville for their first Conference game on Monday.
