Down 3-2 through 5, and playing very well as a team, things turned for the worse with 1 out in the 6th and Tipp went up 6-2 after 6 and went on to win 15-5 in 7. Reuben Marquess pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs (only 1 earned run). His pitching and a pretty solid defense (2 double plays, as well as some very timely put outs) through the first five innings kept the Skyhawks in the game 3-2. Then the defense and the pitching fell apart. The Skyhawks gave up 10 runs on 7 hits, 4 walks and 2 hit batters in the last 1 2/3 innings. Despite some very solid defense for most of the game, the Skyhawks committed 8 errors to let Tipp take an insurmountable lead late in the game.
The Skyhawks battled at the plate, collecting 8 hits and 7 walks in the game while scoring 5 runs. Gavin Howard (pictured) (2-3 with 1 RBI), Reuben Marquess (2-3 with 1 RBI) and Brayden Harris (2-4) each collected 2 hits on the day. Xavier McDougle (1-4) and Cayden Osborne (1-3 with 2 RBI) each collected 1 hit for the Skyhawks.
The Skyhawks travel to Tipp on Monday looking to get back in the win column.
