Fairborn Skyhawks take down the undefeated Butler Aviators 6-2 in a GREAT team win. Fairborn jumped on top in the top of the first when Reuben Marquess singled to drive in Jase Duncan for the first run of the game. The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the 5th inning when Butler tied the game at 1. Butler pitcher Hunter Richardson struck out 10 and only walked one batter, but the Skyhawk batters fought in almost every at bat, fouling off pitches , and making Richardson work deep into counts and up his pitch count totals and was pulled after 5 innings in a 1-1 tie.
Skyhawks pitcher Reuben Marquess (pictured) had a GREAT outing, throwing a complete game 7 innings, 2 runs (1 earned run) while only getting 2 strikeouts, he had a SOLID defense behind him. Despite 2 errors in the field, the Skyhawks made the plays when they needed to. Getting an inning ending double play with bases loaded to keep the game tied at 1 is just one example.

While the Skyhawk offense had their lowest hit total of the season (and most strikeouts in a game), they did enough to secure the win. In the first inning, Jase Duncan drew a walk, Brayden Harris singled to left field, and then Reuben Marquess singled to center knocking in the first run of the game. The Skyhawks were held hitless after that until Andrew Schmidt singled in the top of the 5th. The top of the 7th the Skyhawks busted the game open. Hayden Arndts led of the inning getting hit by a pitch. Gavin Howard came in to run for him. Gavin got to 3rd base on a single by Cayden Osborne. After back to back walks to Xavier McDougle and Andrew Schmidt, Gavin score the go ahead run. Then a single by Kannon Reeser plated 2 more runs. Jase Duncan had the only extra base hit of the game for the Skyhawks, but it was a 2 RBI double that busted the game wide open, making it 6-1. Butler scored 1 run in the bottom of the 7th to make it 6-2.

Despite only 6 hits in the game, the Skyhawks offense strung together the hits at the right time to take down undefeated Butler in a BIG win for the Skyhawks. A great TEAM win as EVERYONE contributed to the victory.

The Skyhawks play Thursday night at home vs Greenon. It is senior night for the Skyhawks.
